"Both have injuries of internal organs and fractures, one of them also has a serious head injury. Both sisters have been operated on and are now in intensive care," the press service of Kharkiv City Council told Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday morning - Interfax.

Two others injured in the accident and delivered the previous night are still in hospital. In addition, three more people – the driver of a Volkswagen car, and the driver and the passenger of the Lexus sought medical aid in hospital. All three were examined, they refused hospitalization.

According to the press service of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, two more injured, including a pregnant woman, were taken to the regional clinical hospital in a normal condition.

A 20-week pregnancy of a woman injured in the accident has been maintained, the forecast is good, the press service of Kharkiv Regional State Administration said.

As reported, in the evening of October 18, at the intersection of Sumska Street and Mechnykov Lane in Kharkiv, a Lexus RX with a 20-year-old woman at the wheel running a red light collided with a Volkswagen Touareg car driven by a 49-year-old man. As a result of the collision, the Lexus skidded to the sidewalk of Sumska Street crashing into eleven pedestrians, five of whom died on the spot (four young women and a young man), the rest were taken to medical facilities.

The driver of the Lexus has been detained. The accident is investigated under part 3 of Article 286 (violation of traffic safety rules, which resulted in the death of several people) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
