Ukrainski Novyny, the increase is due to a corresponding decision by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NKREKU) of Feb. 26, 2015.
Starting from March 1, the households whose monthly electricity consumption does not exceed 100 kW will face a 26 percent increase and pay 0.9 hryvnia per kWh instead of previous 0.714 hryvnia per kWh (some 40 percent of households fall under this category).
For the households that consume more than 100 kW, the tariff will make 1.68 hryvnia per kWh. The previous tariff was 1.29 hryvnia per kWh and 1.63 hryvnia per kWh for each kilowatt beyond 600.
This is the fifth and last increase in residential electricity tariffs under the decision.
As reported, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko explains the rise of tariffs for housing and communal services by the necessity to cooperate with international financial institutions to ensure Ukraine's macroeconomic stability.
