A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has held constructive talks with the Ukrainian authorities and is ready to continue discussing possible financial assistance to the country.
IMF’s Resident Representative in Ukraine Goesta Ljungman said this on the results of the mission’s work. "In recent weeks, the IMF’s mission has held constructive discussions with the Ukrainian authorities regarding the continuation of the Fund’s efforts to support policies on reforms that support macroeconomic stability and growth in Ukraine and on possible financial assistance from the Fund. The discussions are still ongoing," the IMF representative said. As reported, the IMF's mission arrived in Kyiv on September 6 as part of the next review under the EFF (Extended Fund Facility) program for Ukraine and for determining the possibility of allocation of the next tranche. On Thursday, September 20, IMF’s Communications Department Director Gerry Rice said that the IMF had refrained from commenting on possible substitution of current EFF program for Ukraine by a new IMF standby, noting the discussions with Kyiv were ongoing.
