There were no assassination attempts on former President Viktor Yanukovych during ant-government protests in Ukraine in November 2013 through February 2014.

An employee of the State Guard Department, a witness in the case on the Yanukovych high treason, said this at a court session on Thursday, the prosecutor general's spokesperson, Larysa Sarhan, said.

"No attempts were made against fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych, and there were no threats to his life in November 2013 through February 2014. An employee of the State Guard Department confirmed this during interrogation in the Obolonsky District Court," she wrote on Facebook.

Earlier, the defense team of the ex-president claimed there were threats to Yanukovych's life during mass protests in Kyiv from November 2013 to February 2014.

The Obolonsky District Court continues a court hearing in the case on the treason of former President Yanukovych. Prosecution witnesses are currently being questioned.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, Yanukovych is suspected of committing crimes provided for in Part 1, Article 111 (high treason), Part 5, Article 27, Part 3, Article 110 (aiding in intentional acts committed to change the boundaries of the territory and the state border of Ukraine), Part 5, Article 27, Part 3, Article 437 (aiding in holding an aggressive war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
