Peaky Blinders had lost its cutting edge. Literally with the Season Five finale where the show’s famous, trademark, razor blade caps never appeared – except to keep our heroes’ heads warm.

The same was true of the gang that gave the BBC’s global phenomenon its name.

In fact when the series’ long awaited showdown finally came, Tommy Shelby’s (supposedly) meticulous ‘strategy’ to assassinate Oswald Mosley at the British fascist’s rally backfired so badly the boys from Brum didn’t even get a shot off.

‘The Americans don't want to deal with an old-fashioned back street razor gang. Those days are done,’ Michael told Tommy to his face in front of Arthur, Polly and the other leading Peaky Blinders.

‘You betrayed me,’ Tommy muttered in the characteristically menacing whisper that normally served him so well. ‘Don't be here when I get back. You…’
