Activists announce "energy" blockade of Crimea

On October 11, Ukraine suspended power supply to Crimea through Melitopol–Dzhankoy power transmission line, the Crimean news agency Krym.Realii reported referring to Deputy Chairman of the Crimea blockade civil headquarters Izet Gdanov.
"It will be a dead-end line, power will not be supplied to Crimea through it. We will try to bring to knowledge of people in power in the framework of the current legislation that the supply of electricity to Crimea is immoral, to say the least," he said, adding that three more lines continue supplying power to the occupied peninsula.
Gdanov told that one of the power line's towers in Kherson region was previously damaged by unknown people. Hundreds of participants of the blockade gathered around it, including the local population. Due to the presence of people on the site, electrical engineers were not able to continue repair work. Therefore, the power line was shut down.
An indefinite campaign to block trucks carrying products and goods to Crimea, which was initiated by the leaders of the Crimean Tatars, began on September 20.
Participants of the "civil blockade" have still been blocking trucks from entering the peninsula. Members of the Crimean Tatar national movement and representatives of volunteer battalions put up a tent camp at the administrative border in Kherson region preventing the resumption of commodity supplies to the occupied territory. Russian authorities and those of the occupied Crimea condemned these
actions.
