The Council of the European Union, in addition to the “summer” package of the Crimean sanctions against Russia, prolonged the EU sectoral sanctions against Russia by six months due to non-fulfillment of the Minsk agreements.
Preben Aamann, the spokesperson of European Council President Donald Tusk, informed this on his Twitter account on Thursday evening. “Russia sanctions unanimously extended for another six months because of a lack of Minsk Agreements implementation,” the report says. As reported, the Council of the European Union on June 20 prolonged the restrictive measures introduced in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia until June 23, 2020. In response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and deliberate destabilization of a neighbouring sovereign country, the EU imposed restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. Among them are restrictive measures (asset freezes and visa bans), restrictions for Crimea and Sevastopol, measures targeting sectoral cooperation and exchanges with Russia ("economic" sanctions) and measures concerning economic cooperation.
