The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine recorded that 55 civilians were killed and 224 civilians were wounded as a result of the armed conflict in Donbas in 2018.
"In 2018, we recorded 279 civilian casualties: 55 people were killed and 224 people were wounded, being half as many as the civilian casualties in 2017 and the lowest number of civilian casualties for the entire period of the conflict," Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine Fiona Frazer said at the presentation of the 25th report of the Mission covering the period from November 16, 2018 to February 19, 2019, an Ukrinform correspondent reports. She informed that two civilians - a man and a woman - were killed and 11 civilians were wounded between November 16, 2018 and February 19, 2019. "However, we must remember that more than 3,000 civilians have been killed and up to 9,000 civilians have been wounded since the beginning of the conflict," Frazer emphasized. In this context, she noted that the United Nations welcomed the recent renewal of the ceasefire agreement on the occasion of the International Women's Day and called on the parties to adhere to this agreement.
