Turchynov compares Russia's actions in Donbas with attempt to hide 'elephant behind rake'

Turchynov compares Russia's actions in Donbas with attempt to hide 'elephant behind rake'
16 of November 2018 г.
Moscow, by holding sham elections in Donbas, is trying to conceal the occupation of part of Ukrainian territory, and the only way of implementing the Minsk agreements is for Russia to stop its military aggression in Donbas, Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov has said.

"Moscow is unskillfully trying to hide the occupation of part of the Ukrainian Donbas behind sham elections that it organized. It's the same as trying to hide an elephant behind a rake that just hit it in the trunk," the NSDC's press service quoted him as saying.

Turchynov said given that fake elections in the occupied territory were carried out by the Russian military and political leadership with a previously known result, "then with the same success they could have elected two mongrels from the Moscow region as leaders of fake republics."

"By the way, it would not be the worst scenario for occupied territories, because they could have barked loudly, but at least they would not have plundered Ukrainians who are under Russian occupation," he said.

According to Turchynov, a statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin about the need for Ukraine to hold talks with the Kremlin's puppets who were appointed to "manage" quasi-republics "is his obsessive and obscurantist idea, which he has been trying to push forward ineffectively since 2014 and which our state and the whole civilized world will never accept."

"There is only one way of implementing the Minsk agreements, which Putin constantly recalls - the cessation of military aggression and the liberation of Ukrainian territory from occupation forces and Russian weapons," Turchynov said.

As reported, Russian-backed militants held "elections" in the occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions on November 11 during which "DPR" and "LPR" leaders were elected.

The world condemned the holding of these sham elections in Russian-occupied Donbas.
